Prowine News
NEWS FROM THE LABORATORY
'The Boss' has been asking for my update for a while now, so please accept my apologies but here – at last – it is!!
One of the reasons for my tardiness is that we have been busy going through the process of gaining our Organic certification, which I am pleased to say we now have. Prowine is now certified to bottle organic wine under two systems,
• NASAA organic for Australia
• USDA – NOP processor for the USA.
We have had our first bottling under the NOP system, which I believe is the first of its type in Australia to be going to America. For many people organics is the way of the future - given the number of allergies that are found in the community and the ongoing debate over GM, we are pleased to be a link in the process.
We believe that there are a number of things that set Prowine apart from its competitors. Our commitment and approach to quality is paramount in every aspect of the business and is driven right from the top.
The laboratory/cellar is part of that QA system and acts as a service not only to our customers, but also to bottling. We help ensure that all of the processes involved with the wine until it is safely in the bottle and sealed are carried out, checked and signed off. As has been said on many occasions, the wine has to be right; once it is in the bottle it is too late!! Our laboratory is also a member of the global Inter-Winery Analysis Group (IWAG) program. Samples are provided by IWAG to participating laboratories for testing; results are then collated and compared to ensure that our technical equipment and analysis are within acceptable industry standards. We also run daily and weekly checks in house.
We encourage customers to supply us with pre-delivery samples as a way of checking areas like turbidity’s for filtration requirements, alcohols for labelling requirements, heat and cold stabilities (some thing none of us want to leave till the last minute!) and malic checks. Bench trials can also be an important part of the pre-bottling process and we are always happy to have a look at the wines with you!
The laboratory also performs customer analysis (please see the laboratory section for tests performed), so even if you do not bottle with us we are more than happy to help out with most of your testing requirements. We also have the ability to carry out microbial testing and trouble shooting.
Well that’s about it – back to the test tubes for me! Please feel free to call me, Mark or Heidi with any of your queries or requirements; we are here to help if we can.
Cheers, Sharon Bear.
SUPPORTING OUR CUSTOMERS
As a company offering contract bottling services to the wine industry, Prowine feels that it is appropriate to support that industry and its communities in suitable ways.
As we provide contract packaging to wineries in many different areas, so we support those areas in varying ways. To this end, since 2005 we have each year been a major supporter of the Limestone Coast Wine Show through sponsorship of the Trophy for Most Successful Exhibitor. This trophy was won by Orlando Wines in 2008.
Another wine growing region that we encourage through sponsorship is the Adelaide Hills where we are now a Gold Sponsor of the Best Chardonnay Trophy at their annual wine show.
The Clare Valley district wineries support Prowine well and in return we have now become Gold Sponsors of the local Mintaro Manoora Eagles Football & Netball Clubs which is also generously sponsored by several wineries in the area. In addition to this we are hoping to become a sponsor of the Clare Valley Wine Show in 2009 and beyond.
We also service many Barossa Valley winemakers and are in the throes of becoming a member of the Barossa Grape & Wine Association. This association organises the Barossa Wine Show where we intend to become an Associate Partner with the aim of offering sponsorship for an appropriate class or trophy.
